Criminal behavior has consequences that extend beyond the immediacy of the relationship between perpetrator and victim. In the same way that illicit behavior is often difficult to detect, so too are its true costs difficult to ascertain. SAI has developed innovative approaches to the monetization of criminal activity, and applied these techniques to the problem of illicit drug use.

The Economic Impact of Illicit Drug Use on American Society

Working closely with the Department of Justice, National Drug Intelligence Center, SAI developed a revised and internally consistent method for estimating the cost of illicit drug use to American society. The technique employs a strictly prevalence-based approach to estimation and monetizes the impact of illicit drug use in three areas: Crime, Health, and Productivity.
